Serious Head on Collision on Route 26 involving a Carroll County Sheriff's Deputy

On January 27, 2016 at 1:40 a.m. Winfield Fire Department was alerted for a vehicle collision on Route 26 at the intersection of Franklinville Road. While responding the initial assignment was upgraded to a full rescue assignment adding Medic 19 & Rescue 1. Winfield crews arrived to a serious head on collision involving a Carroll County Sheriffs Deputy. Lt. 14-1 (Nick Haspert) off Engine 141 established the Route 26 command advising one person trapped and requested 2 Maryland State Police medevac helicopters (which were down due to weather). The crew from Engine 141 & Rescue 1 worked to extricate the trapped patient and both drivers were transported in serious condition to Shock Trauma. Engine 142 remained on the scene for several hours providing lighting for the investigation team. Route 26 remained closed until 8:45 a.m. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is investigating the collision.
