By Assistant Chief Austin Johnstone
March 13, 2020

On Thursday, March 12th, Governor Hogan Declared a state of Emergency due to the outbreak and escalating situation concerning Human Coronavirus (COVID-19). Leadership of Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department (WCVFD) has met and has decided to cancel all community events through March 31st, complying with the Governor’s order cancel large events of more than 250 people.

Our firehouse and social hall will be closed to the public until further notice. WCVFD remains fully staffed and prepared to respond to any emergency. During this time we need to look out for the best interest of the community and our members. Any events that were scheduled during this time will be rescheduled if possible and communicated when such information is available.

Our leadership is in constant communication with our membership, County Government, and The State of Maryland. We have instituted extra precautionary measures around our station, including regular disinfection of our equipment and station.

Please take some time to read up on COVID-19 and reach out to the Carroll County Health Department if you have any questions.

For the most current and accurate information about the situation, please refer to the following sites:
Carroll County Health Department (CCHD): https://cchd.maryland.gov/covid-19/
Maryland Department of Health (MDH): https://health.maryland.gov/pages/home.aspx
Centers for Disease Control (CDC): https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html

We will post more information as necessary to our website and social media platforms. COVID-19 remains a fluid situation, in which is being monitored closely. As always, if you have an emergency, please call 911.

UPDATE: The first positive case of COVID-19 has been reported in Carroll County. Please continue to take all precautions as directed by CCHD and the CDC. Remember to wash your hands regularly. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 please call your doctor and if necessary 911.
