| The Winfield Volunteer Fire Department was one of eight recipients that received a grant from the Focus on Fire Prevention Foundation which applied for a grant through the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
The recipients attended a workshop in Orlando, Florida, the weekend of October 5, 2012. The following fire departments were chosen: Trailer Estates, Florida, Chilhowie FD, Virginia, Wahkiakum FD, Washington, Rapid Valley FD, South Dakota, Centennial Fire Department, Minnesota, North Routt Fire Department, Colorado, Mt. Lemmon Fire Department, Arizona and the Winfield VFD, Maryland.
Winfield was provided 300 smoke alarms to distribute in their first due area. This grant requires a one page inspection form to be completed when we come to your home to install the alarms. This is a must! If you are not willing to let us do the inspection then we cannot provide the free alarms per the grant requirements. These alarms have 10 year lithium batteries, therefore it is important to test your alarms monthly and vacuum them regularly, but you do not have to change the batteries when you change your clocks. Technically, the alarm should work for ten years and that is when the entire device should be replaced according to the manufacturer.
If interested in the free home inspection and smoke alarms, and you live in Winfield's first due response area please call/email Debbie at 410-795-1333 x336/fireprevention@winfieldvfd.org. Please leave your name, address and phone number on her voicemail or cut off the below portion and mail it to WCVFD Attn: Debbie 1320 W. Old Liberty Rd. Sykesville, MD 21784.
