Past Chief Wayne Logue takes his "Final Ride"

By President Scott Legore
August 4, 2008

On Monday, August 4th, the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department said farewell to Past Chief, Life and Charter Member Wayne Logue. In honor of Wayne's wishes, the funeral was held at the fire station and he was given a final ride on Engine 142.

Wayne was one of the founding members of the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department, serving as one of the department's first Fire Lieutenants. Wayne has been an active member of the department for 43 years. He has remained very active in emergency responses, being among the top fire responders for many years and was one of our most active drivers. He was an officer of the department for 26 years, including 5 years as Fire Chief.

Wayne's "specialty" was the equipment. He was responsible for the routine maintenance of the fire equipment for many years. He served on the equipment committees that designed and placed in service 4 Engines, a Tanker and an Air Unit. He was the chairman of several of those committees.

Wayne was also very dedicated to our fundraising efforts. He could be found each year in the Dime Pitch at our annual Carnival, the stand that he ran for many, many years. He always had the knack of knowing the best glasses to use. He was also a very active participant at the many other fundraisers held by the fire department or Ladies Auxiliary, usually found with sweat on his brow, washing dishes in the back.

Wayne was inducted into the Carroll County Volunteer Fireman's Association Hall of Fame in 2002 for his dedication and committment to the department and the community. He will be truly missed by all members of the department.

The Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department would like to extend a thank you to all of the individuals, businesses and departments that assisted with the memorial service and funeral. Thank You to:

Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department, Carroll Manor Fire Company, New Windsor Volunteer Fire Department, Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company, Juniors Fire Department, South Carroll High School, Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, Alban CAT, Convenience Catering, Dennis Beard, Ivan Browning, and all of the members of the Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary, Fire Police, Paid Personnel and Junior Fire Department.
