Administrative and Operational Officers Participate in Leadership & Planning Workshop

Twelve Administrative and Operational officers participated in a 5-hr Leadership & Planning Workshop hosted by the department on February 4th. The goal of the workshop was to develop some measurable planning goals through the use of various organizational assessment and strategic planning exercises. Of course, what would a leadership/planning workshop be without a little team-building exercise like The Great Egg Drop. The participants were divided into three teams and had 25 minutes to assemble an egg package that would allow an egg to survive an 8-ft fall without cracking or breaking. All three teams were successful - GREAT JOB!
Of course, the participants were also successful in having meaningful discussions about the needs and directions of the organization. They examined the organization's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in an effort to help establish some short-term goals that can be acted on.
While not every admin or ops officer attended - for those that did - the workshop proved valuable to better understanding leadership roles within the department.
Hustling to get their package assembled before the timer rings. Not quite sure what the design is at this point.
Each team had 20 drinking straws, 2 paper towels, 5 rubber bands, 5 paper clips, and a roll of masking tape as their building supplies.
Each team's design varied quite a bit.
Ready for the Great Egg Drop!!!
It WORKED! Actually, every team was successful in their final product which shows that there are different ways of accomplishing even the simplest of task. At times, the final outcome is more important than how that outcome is reached!
