| On Saturday, May 16th, the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department hosted the 5th annual convention of the Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association (CCVESA) and Auxiliary to the Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association (ACCVESA). Approximately 250 officers, delegates and guests attended the all day event. The day began with a breakfast for the Past Presidents, followed by registration for all of the delegates. After lunch, President Legore welcomed everyone to the convention and then an awards ceremony was held. The association recognized three Hall of Fame recipients and three recipients of the association's scholarship award.
Everyone then proceeded to the Winfield Bible Chapel for a memorial service remembering the members of the County Fire Departments and Ladies Auxiliaries that past away in 2008. Special thanks goes out to Assistant Chief Chuck Ray and the Hampstead Junior Fire Department who served as the honor guard, soloist (and Winfield member) Gary Rains, organist Betty May, bagpiper (and Mount Airy Fire Chief) Ivan Browning, and Deacon Charles Barnhart.
Personnel then came back to the fire station where meetings of both CCVESA and ACCVESA were held. During these meetings the officers for next year were elected and took their oath of office.
Following these meetings, everyone came back together for a social hour that was followed by another award ceremony were County Commissioner Julia Gouge presented several proclamations to the Association and Ralph Dull was recognized for his many years of service to the association.
The Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary to the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department were honored to host this year's convention and looks forward to working with the associations and their officers in the upcoming year. |
