Vehicle Collision with Rescue on Route 26 at Woodbine Road

On Saturday October 22nd at 6:56a.m. Winfield and Sykesville Fire Departments were alerted for a vehicle collision with rescue at the intersection of Route 26/Woodbine Road. First arriving units found one patient trapped in a car that was struck by a large commercial truck. Engine 141 arrived and EMS-14 (A. Johnstone) established command and a Maryland State Police Medevac was requested due to the severity of the injured patient. The crew from Engine 141 & Rescue Squad 12 worked to remove the doors and roof from the vehicle to extricate the patient. Utility 14 established a landing site adjacent to the Winfield Fire Station for Trooper 3 which flew the patient to Shock Trauma. Route 26 remained closed for several hours while the Maryland State Police investigated the cause of the accident.
