Fire at Safeway in Eldersburg

On January 20, 2016 at 5:03pm Winfield Fire Department was alerted as part of a box alarm for a reported building fire at the Safeway grocery store in Eldersburg. First arriving Chief 12 (Ed Ruch Jr.) advised several dumpsters at the loading dock area were on fire with possible extension into the building and requested the rapid intervention dispatch. Engine 142 responded on the initial dispatched and laid a supply line the front of the building and the crew checked the interior of the building for extension and assisted with ventilation. Engine 141 & Medic 149 responded as part of the rapid intervention dispatched. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent from spreading into the building, and the Safeway store reopened for business later that evening.
