Vehicle Collision with Rescue - 4700 Block of Ridge Road

On Monday July 13, 2015 at 9:26 a.m. Winfield & Mt. Airy Fire Departments responded to a vehicle collision with rescue in the 4700 Block of Ridge Road (Route 27). While units were responding they were advised of two people trapped, one unconscious. Paramedic 149 was the first to arrive to a head-on collision involving a small dump truck vs. full-size pickup truck with two people severely trapped. Engine 142 established the initial command, when Duty 14 arrived Chief 14-2 (M. Davis) assumed command. Crews from Engine 142, Rescue 1, Utility 14 and Brush 145 worked on extricating the patients while Engine 12 established a landing site for Trooper 3 in the area of Roop Road. One patient was flown to Shock Trauma, and two patients were transported to Carroll Hospital Center were one was pronounced deceased. Ridge Road (Route 27) remained closed for several hours while Maryland State Police investigated the accident.
