On Monday night August 11th at 20:33 hrs units were dispatched for a reported structure fire in the area of Route 97 and Old Liberty Road. Lt. 14-1 (Zach Schneider) was the first to arrive reporting a working barn fire in the 5200 block of Equestrian Drive. Command 14 was established requesting Tanker Task Force and 2 additional brush trucks due to exposure problems with the barn being surrounded by a heavly wooded area. Engine 142 was the first unit to arrive laying 833' of 5' supply line to the scene. Crews quickly went to work putting 2 master streams (blitz fires) in operation to knock the fire. A water supply fill site was set up in the area of Enterprise Street, and tanker shuttle was used to supply over 13,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. Crews were able to contain the fire to the barn preventing any further damage. The cause of the blaze is suspected to be arson, but is under the investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshals Office. Crews went in service close to midnight.
