On Tuesday September 16th surrounding fire departments were alerted for a house fire in the 6900 Block of Zinnia Drive in Sykesville. The Carroll County Sheriff's Department was the first to arrive at the scene and confirmed that there was a working house fire.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s deputy used his fire extinguisher to help suppress the fire, the deputy then used a nearby garden hose to keep the fire from spreading. The deputy’s quick thinking and actions helped prevent further spreading of the fire.

Units from Winfield & Sykesville Fire Departments arrived and extinguished the remaining fire and firefighters overhauled the rear of the house. Fire damage was contained to the deck and to the rear of the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation from the Maryland State Fire Marshall’s office.
