Carroll County residents came together with local businesses, nonprofits, law enforcement and public safety organizations to promote crime prevention and mingle with neighbors at the 4th annual Eldersburg National Night Out. Similar events were also held throughout Carroll County.
The family-friendly event is part of America's National Night Out against crime, which was founded by the nonprofit National Association of Town Watch in 1984.
The event began in an effort to heighten awareness and strengthen participation in local anti-crime efforts, according to the National Association of Town Watch website.
In 1984, 2.5 million Americans in 400 communities across the country participated in the event. Last year, 37.1 million people in 15,325 communities across the United States, Canada and military bases worldwide participated in National Night Out, according to association website.
This is the fourth year the Freedom Area Citizens Council has hosted a National Night Out event in South Carroll. |
