Winfield's Engine 142 and Tanker 14 were alerted along with several other surrounding companies to a reported building fire at the old Henryton State Hospital Center in Sykesville. Carroll County 911 received a call reporting fire on the 3rd floor of the building and it was spreading. First arriving Engine 124 called on scene and reported fire through the roof.
Sykesville crews, having been here before, immediately made this a defensive operations and no one was entering the structure. Chief 12 established command and requested a tanker task force which brought Engine 141 on the road.
Winfield's crews established water supply operations at the entrance to the compound. Tankers from Carroll, Howard, and Frederick counties responded to help with the call.
