Winfield units assisted Mount Airy on a house fire in the early morning hours of February 26th.
Initially, units (including Tanker 14) were dispatched to a reported house fire with subjects trapped in the 400 block of Twin Arch Road in Howard County. While responding, Mount Airy's Engine 12 found the actual location in the 4000 block of Twin Arch Road. They were confronted with a two story house with significant fire in the rear. Crews were able to determine that everyone was out of the house and were forced to evacuate with the collapse of the rear of the house. Crews were hampered by strong gusty winds and low temperatures which made fighting the fire extremely treacherous.
Engine 142 initially transferred to Mount Airy but was dispatched to assist on the scene. Tanker 14 stood by as the location was just outside of the hydrants in Mount Airy. Crews remained on scene for over two hours.
