Blizzard 2010

The Winfield area along with the State of Maryland was pounded by the Blizzard of 2010 bringing large accumulations of snow, high winds, and zero visibility. Winfield crews had to battle through these tough conditions responding on calls day and night leaving the volunteers with little to no rest for days. The National Guard placed an Army Medic Humvee at the Winfield Station from Tuesday - Saturday to help respond on calls. In addition MT Laney Company donated the use of their snowmobile which was used to respond to Gamber to assist with a medical emergency which was inaccessible by plow trucks and snow blowers. On Wednesday evening Engine 141, Utility 14, and Utility 14-1 responded on a working auto fire in Winfield's first due on Old Washington Road. In addition to responding on calls the members of the department provided breakfast and dinner for the county plow crews throughout the duration of the storm. Many thanks to all the volunteers that came out and helped with everything.
