At 1948 hrs box 17-31 was struck for a reported house fire in the 15600 block of Oak Orchard Rd. Bringing crews from Carroll and Frederick counties together for a long evening. E-142 and Tanker 14 responded quickly with crews still at the station from a previous train fire. E-101 arrived on scene to find a 2 1/2 story single family home with heavy fire on side Charlie. Oak Orchard command was established by Captain 10 (Coe) and the safety task force was requested. Crews from E-101 and E-102 placed two lines in service on side C as a propane tank vented and began to significantly feed the fire. E-142 arrived and picked up the supply line on the bridge over Sams Creek and established a draft from the stream and pumped water to the E-101 for the fire attack. The crew from E-142 was split sending three personnel to the fire ground and leaving three personnel at the bridge to expand the water supply operation. Crews on the fireground mounted an interior firefight for about 20 minutes at which time the fire had taken hold of the 2nd floor and attic. Command changed the tactics to defensive from the exterior with several handlines, a portable master stream, and Tower 3's ladder pipe in service to knock down the large amount of fire. The exterior attack was able to knock down the bulk of the fire and crews returned to the interior to perform overhaul and locate the remaining pockets of fire inside the dwelling.
