On Sunday January 7th at 1:21pm units from Mt. Airy and surrounding fire departments were alerted for a reported house fire in the 3700 Block of Falling Green Way. While units were responding to the scene Carroll County's Dispatch Center advised they had received several calls reporting flames showing from the roof of a house. Based on this information Duty 14 (Chief 14-2 Davis) requested a Tanker Task Force and a Rapid Intervention Dispatch.

Engine 12 (Mt. Airy) was the first to arrive confirming heavy fire and smoke showing from the roof of a large, two-story wood framed single family house. Duty 14 (Chief 14-2 Davis) arrived and assumed the command. Crews from Engine 12 and Engine 142 quickly went to work on the the interior second floor opening up the ceilings to access the fire while Engine 141 and Tower 12 worked on the exterior and roof. Additional units arrived and assisted with fire attack and overhaul. Chief 14 (Dods) had command of the water supply operations utilizing a tanker shuttle from a hydrant located near the Mt. Airy fire station. Chief 14-1 (Legore) had command of the exterior efforts on the rear and roof of the house.

The occupants were able to self evacuate prior to the fire departments arrival. Crews remained on scene for several hours performing extensive overhaul.

The fire is being investigated by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
