By Board of Director Zach Schneider
October 30, 2017

Early Sunday morning October 29th at 1:08a.m. units from Winfield and surrounding fire departments were alerted for a reported barn fire in the 3200 Block of Marston Road. First arriving Lieutenant 14-4 (J. Beadenkopf) arrived to two barns fully involved with fire and established the initial command. Engine 141 & Engine 101 arrived and quickly went to work trying to contain the fire from spreading to the adjacent structures. Chief 10-1 (M. Moser) assumed the command and requested two Tanker Task Forces and additional brush trucks to assist with the wind driven fire. Shortly after crews arrived the vacant farm house attic had visible fire so crews quickly redirected to the interior of the house and extinguished the fire containing it to the attic before resuming extinguishing the barns.

Rural water supply sites were setup to support the extinguishing efforts by Brush 105 at a pond located 1,300' from the incident scene while a secondary fill site was set up at an underground water tank located in Taylorsville and a tanker shuttle was used to haul the additional water to the scene. Crews remained on scene throughout the night and finally returned to service around 7:00a.m.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
