By Board of Director Zach Schneider
March 4, 2017

On Saturday morning at 7:55a.m. Winfield and surrounding fire departments were alerted for a reported house fire in the 4300 Block of Old Washington Road. Units arrived on scene to find a two-story single family dwelling well-involved in fire. A Rapid Intervention Dispatch and a Tanker Task Force was requested. Due to the heavy fire conditions a defensive attack was ordered. Engine 134 returning to service from a previous incident was the first to arrive and was quickly backed up by Engine 141 as the secondary attack pumper using it's Class A foam capabilities. Chief 14-2 (Davis) assumed the command of the incident scene while Chief 14 (Dods) assumed command of the water supply operations. The primary water source was established by Brush 95 at a near by pond that has a dry fire hydrant that Winfield VFD inspects annually. Additional water supply sources were established by Engine 142 at a fire hydrant on Klee Mill Road, and Brush 105 at the pond across from Winfield's fire station. A total of 18,000 gallons was hauled via tanker shuttle to the scene. Fortunately all occupants escaped without injury, however the house was a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Units responded from Winfield, Gamber, Sykesville, Westminster, Reese, Mt. Airy, West Friendship, New Windsor, Lisbon, and Glenwood.
