On Sunday, June 19, seven ladies competed for the title of MSFA Miss Fire Prevention 2016-2017. The contestants were Rachel Bowles, Cecil County, Brittnee Ewing, Talbot County, Mariah Maines, Harford County, Cari McHenry, Maryland Fire Chief's Association, Emily Reaver, Carroll County, Sierra Smallwood, Washington County, and Sabrina Wainwright, Harford-Cecil Firemen's Association.

After a farewell speech from Gabrielle Kerby and Susan Hilton, Emily Reaver was named as the MSFA Miss Fire Prevention First Runner-Up and Sierra Smallwood was announced MSFA Miss Fire Prevention 2016-2017.

Congratulations to all on a job well done.

Safe Kids had numerous displays at the convention to teach children and their families a variety of safety lessons during the convention. A few Winfield members and family members took part in this life saving educational event.

Debbie won the Jane Todd Award from the LAMSFA for her fire prevention work during 2015.

Gary Rains, Past President and Life Member of the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department gave a main program presentation on "The Maryland Fire-Rescue Services Memorial" during the annual MSFA Convention.

The presentation featured the Maryland Fire-Rescue Services Memorial which was designed and built to honor and remember the volunteer and career men and women from Maryland's Fire, EMS Rescue, and Aviation Services whose lives were lost while serving the citizens of Maryland. The program included an informative discussion of the Memorial Foundation's history, mission, annual memorial service, and fund-raising efforts.

Andrew Broussard was named runner-up for the Past President C. Oscar Baker Rookie of the Year Award.

Chris Broussard received a certificate for being one of ten nominated for Firefighter of the Year.

The Logue-Ruckman Family was one of three families that received a Family Appreciation Award certificate.

Sixty-four fire departments applied for the free smoke alarm grant. Seventy grants were available, therefore everyone that applied received the grant.

Debbie received the MSFA Silver Spring Award for her fire prevention work in 2015.

Mary Ellen Wilson, RN, offered a break out session presentation on Emergency Ready Families - Preparing Families for the Right Care When it Counts. Today's presentation was geared towards EMS providers.
