On Sunday morning June 5th at 8:37a.m. units from Mt. Airy and surrounding departments were dispatched for a house fire in the 6300 block of Davis Road. First arriving Engine 12 from Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company arrived to a two story single family house with fire coming from the second floor windows and roof. The tanker task force was quickly requested brining additional resources to the scene for water supply. The house had been evacuated prior to the fire departments arrival. Crews made an aggressive interior attack and brought the fire under control in just over 20 minutes however there was extensive fire, smoke, and water damage to the house.

One civilian resident of the home was transported to the burn center for treatment of burns sustained during the fire prior to the arrival of the fire service units. The injuries are not life threatening and the victim was treated and released. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The origin and cause of the fire Has been determined to have been a malfunction in the charging unit of an R/C car as determined by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Damage figures are $75,000 to the structure and $25,000 to the contents. The smoke alarms were in place and did operate to alert the occupants of the fire.
